Autologous Serum Tears

Autologous serum tears are eye drops (ASED) and sometimes called blood derived serum tears because they are formulated with specially treated components of a patient’s own blood. This prescription eye drop uses a patient’s own blood serum, which is diluted with a solution to produce a tear substitute that is unique to each patient. Autologous serum tears are proven to be an effective treatment option for many patients with dry eye syndrome, as well as patients with dry eye issues due to autoimmune disorders such as Sjögren’s syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis.

The Dry Eye Optometric Center of Orange County is able to provide both the blood draw and the ability to process the drops in-office while you wait. The entire process takes about 1.5 hours.
